Birthday Party

We had Mason's first birthday party on Saturday noon, the day after his birthday. It worked great because almost all his family was able to be there (missed you uncles Joel and Bobby).

Brian was MIA for this picture, so since everyone was ready to eat, I posed with the food. Mason was still napping at this point and we didn't deem it necessary to wake him for a picture with the food.

Brian smoked pork on Friday and it was tasty! Chips, veggies and humus, and fruit completed the meal.

We had lots of party guests - family and friends. We were lucky to have a mostly sunny and rain-free party. It had been raining most of the week and it was so nice to have a warmish day with sunshine!

Posing with his grandpa and mimi Kempf before a birthday cupcake.

Mommy, daddy, and Mason before his cupcake.

We weren't expecting much from him as far as mess and excitement over the cupcake. He's had some sweets, but never this much cake and frosting at the same time. He was interested, but needed some encouragement.

Discovered the frosting was tasty.

Inspecting the cupcake. I think he held it out over the tray and dropped it soon after this. We recovered quickly and continued on with eating.

Smooshing and smashing between his fingers. A favorite of his.

Nonie helped him get some in his mouth. At this point he discovered he wanted to continue eating and enjoying his birthday cupcake.

Mason and his grandmothers. Getting a little help with some milk; always necessary with cake.

Evidence that he did get some to the mouth.

Mmmm...mashed up cake.

In the end the cupcake was gone. There were bits and pieces left on his tray, hands, and face, but Mason did a good job in finishing it.

More partying.

Then came the presents. As we all know, one-year-olds don't care about gifts. Note Mason in the background totally enthralled with his spoon. Silas and Ezra were more than happy to step up the plate and assist Brian with the gift opening, and ohhing and ahhing too.

Block wagon from Uncle Neal. Brian was super excited, or just trying to get Mason excited.

He did kick and squeal a little from his high chair spot and was eager to get down and inspect the wagon, and face on the sticker.

Going for a birthday drive with daddy and Neal.

Between his parents, grandparents, and generous party goers, Mason is all set for toys to play with during the coming year. We've enjoyed some already and look forward to more playtime with them.
