Mason's preschool has one main teacher, one assistant and one parent helper. The helper parent aids the teachers in passing out papers, helping at the tables during writing, assisting with other tasks, and bringing the snack.
Mason wanted to take chocolate chip cookies for snack when it was his turn to be the helper!Being the parent helper is a nice way to see how a normal day of preschool flows, and your child gets to be the special helper for the day. They gather on this rug for about 30 minutes of singing, stretching, listening, and learning before moving onto other spots for the reminder of the 2 ½ hour preschool day.
As the special helper for the day at school each child gets to hold the flag for the pledge,
point to the dates on the calendar while the kids count,
dress the person for the day depending on the temperature, sun, clouds, rain, snow...pass out the snack and so on.It was so fun to sit and watch Mason in class.
There are four stations and each child gets a colored arm band (pink, green, blue or purple) for the day. They move with their color to each of the stations (library, kitchen, craft, toy box) and have about 10-15 minutes to play before the bell rings and they move to the next station.
Playing in the kitchen area with there's also a tool box, cash register, slide and see saw.
Craft table.
On this day, there was a sand table in the toy box area. They learn about one letter for the two days of the week they are at school. On this week the letter was D and they dug for dinosaur bones in the sand. As the parent helper, it was my job to monitor the sand table and keep the kids from making to much of a mess and also sharing the burying/digging tasks.
After they have a chance to play at each of the four stations, it's time to clean up, get their bags and coats on, and line up in two lines, boy and girl, and wait to be dismissed to their parents who are waiting at the top of the stairs in the lobby.
Meanwhile, Micah got to spend the 2 ½ hours of preschool time playing with grandpa. They watched some animal videos on youtube that Micah thought were so funny!
And he played in the toy box!
Then we went out for lunch at T&C to end a fun morning!
