Birthday Weekend

Several weekends ago we traveled to PA to celebrate Dave's 60th birthday and visit family.  We left at 4:45 on Friday morning and made great time!  We spent the afternoon resting and playing before eating dinner at Rio's Brazilian Steakhouse with Brian's immediate family.
Pardon the blurry picture… The three brothers with big grins because they are hungry and ready to eat some meat!
Mason (and Micah too) did wonderfully at the restaurant, considering we don't typically spend 2.5 hours a restaurants these days! Fortunately we were in the corner and had plenty of space to spread out and Mimi had packed a special bag of things for Mason.
Wearing his "reading" glasses and looking at his calendar.
If you've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, only go if you like every and all kinds and cuts of meats, and if you're hungry! If you know the Kempf boys, you know this was their kind of place! (That's pineapple in the above picture…the meat was served the same way.  The pineapple was the grand finale!)
 Birthday treat from the restaurant.
Mason and grandpa Dave read a few stories before bed.
Micah Jude is still not sleeping well… He was up various times through the night and then early for the day on Saturday.
We had a relaxing Saturday - playing outside; Dave using his birthday gift, a backpack leaf blower; a walk in the crisp air, and party prep.
Brian and I escaped for a quick date! It involved shopping - go figure.  And Brian was super happy about it.  Really, he said he was fine with shopping as long as he was spending time with me.  Awww!
This is what we came home to - a tired little boy who slept for 2.5 hours propped up on a few pillows on the middle of the living room floor amidst Mason playing, the tv on, and people talking.
And this glorious pizza was our lunch.  I like most any pizza, but I really love this!
Saturday evening Dave and Susie hosted a 60th birthday party for family at an old schoolhouse.  The tables were decorated and the food was delicious - chicken cordon bleu, salad, bread, peas, appetizers, and cake.
Mason was so excited to help grandpa Dave blow out the candles!  He even ate an entire piece of cake, not just the frosting!
Instead of staying for church and lunch, we left around 10:00 on Sunday morning to get home with a few hours to spare before bedtime.  Mason loves to run around with daddy and explore at rest areas.
It was great to visit with family and celebrate Dave's birthday!  We're looking forward to being together again for Christmas!
