Brian decided to tackle the backsplah project over Labor Day weekend. He started out on Saturday morning ripping off the current countertop backsplash. It was just glued in place, so it didn't take too long to get rid of it.

We were thinking of just leaving it this way. :) The orangish glue and greenish paint really went well with the red walls and white cabinets. But, we decided to forge ahead and get on with the project.
Kitchen in destruction stage.
The handy carpenter using the saw he got for Christmas. It's come in quite handy thus far. Here he's cutting the different pieces of beadboard. He spent lots of time on Saturday and Monday measuring the walls in order to fit the beadboard in and around the windows and stove. He also cut the outlet and light switch holes with a jig saw.
Right now, the beadboard is painted red (to match the walls) and is sitting in the kitchen becoming aclimated to it's new home. (Brian says this is a good thing for the beadboard...). We primed and painted it over the past several days and Brian is planning to glue, nail, woodfill, and touch-up paint tomorrow. Then we'll be done with the major projects in the kitchen.
Ahhh...it feels good to know we're making progress.
